Maul endured the terrible wound and remained a shadowy force and rival of Darth Sidious for years afterward. In the ensuing battle, Maul killed Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn before being cut in half by young Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi. Darth Maul's first task was to assassinate Queen Amidala, but was stopped by her Jedi escorts.
